Kuantan Lunch Places

1. Lai Meng
Open: about 8 a.m- 3 p.m
Address: Jalan Galing 25250 Kuantan, Pahang

Selling fiery hot malat mee(chilli mee) and savoury mee soup, Lai Meng is the place to go for noodle enthusiasts. Their soup is great and all but what really sells is their malat mee which honestly burns your tongue as you drink the soup but it's totally worth the heat. The malat's soup is spicy, salty and wonderfully sweet but not too sweet. Tip--> you can ask them to tone down the chilli if you can't take it.

2. GC Curry House (Halal)
Open:
Address: B132, Jln Air Putih, 25300 Kuantan, Pahang
Tel: 09-568 4454

Everything in this restaurant is pretty good. I especially like their banana leaf rice. Their vegetables and fish are usually very fresh. It's best to eat banana leaf rice in the afternoon cause that's when it's the freshest. Their roti canai, tosai and capati are really delicious too. Their currys are good but not great. Recommended for anyone who's craving reasonably priced Indian food.

3. Jeya Corner (Halal)
Open: 8 a.m- 11 p.m daily
Address: A19, Jalan Haji Ahmad 3, Seri Pahang Business Centre, Pahang, Kuantan, 25300

I absolutely LOVE the food here. Jeya is my favourite Indian restaurant in Kuantan. All of their currys have a certain kick to it and their roti canai is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Admittedly they're a little on the high side but for the great food, it's well worth it!

4. Muar E Kopitiam (Halal)
Open: Tue-Thurs--> 07:00-17:30
           Fri-Sun-----> 07:00-18:00
Address: A643, Jalan Beserah, Kuantan, Pahang 25300
Tel: 09-5679324

Muar E is almost always packed to the brim but their service is really fast so you don't have to wait long for a seat to free up. Their signature dish would have to be their delicious yam rice which is only available on Saturdays and Sundays and usually it sells out very fast. They also have steam bread, my favourite being the Muar E bun which is triangular in shape and is really soft and nice. Besides that their meehoon goreng and pan mee chilli are pretty good too. Their iced coffee is also not too bad.
Nice Dishes: Muar E bun, iced coffee, Yam rice, Fried meehoon, pan mee chilli

5. Lai Lai Square Chicken Rice
Open: 11a.m- 1a.m
Address: Jalan Kubang Buaya Kuantan, Pahang.
The chicken rice here is so popular that it sells out by as early as 1 in the morning. This is because the soup here is delicious and the chicken is fresh and tender. Come early or call before you come to check whether the chicken rice has sold out yet.

6. Kwong Fatt
Address: B1705, Ground Floor, Jalan Beserah Kuantan, Pahang
Tel: 09-5668358

Kwong Fatt sells the best chicken feet in Kuantan and maybe even arguably the best in Malaysia. This is my parents favourite kai kiok(chicken feet) and ngaulam soup(beef soup) shop. I enjoyed their chi yok(pork meat square) with their meehoon soup very much but lately they haven't been able to get their hands on fresh pork so they have temporarily stopped seling it. Their prices are reasonable but the older brother is quite unfriendly.
Nice Dishes: Kai Kiok(chicken feet), ngaulam soup(beef soup), chi yok(pork meat square)

Kuantan Breakfast Places

Kuantan is the capital of Pahang state and also happens to be my hometown. This town may be tiny and I might be biased but I believe it has some of the best food Malaysia has to offer. So with no further ado, I will be showing you all the local favourites for breakfast in Kuantan.

1. Hoi Yin (Halal maybe?)
Open: 7.00 a.m-2.30 p.m(weekends and public holidays, closed on alternate Mondays)
Address: Restoran Hoi Yin, No. 31, Jalan Teluk Cempedak 25050 Kuantan

Hoi Yin is probably the most popular Curry Mee restaurant in Kuantan. If you want to eat there, it's best that you go early and on a weekday. Honestly the curry and soup are average but they are very generous with their servings of cockles, chicken, tau fu, fish cakes and bean sprouts. They don't have a halal certificate but I have seen many Malays eat in this shop. Their prices are also very reasonable, charging a mere RM3.50 for curry mee. Overall I would recommend this for anybody looking for good food at a reasonable prices.

2. Hai Peng (Halal)
Open: Morning-5.00 p.m daily
Address: Jalan Haji Abdul Aziz 25000 Kuantan, Pahang
Tel: 09-857 7810

Hai Peng is my mother's favourite breakfast place in the whole of Kuantan. So far their iced coffee is the best I've ever tasted. Besides that, their nasi lemak with curry chicken is delicious and not too spicy. They also serve toasted or steamed buns with butter and really nice homemade kaya. They are reasonably priced, as most of the food in Kuantan are. They are usually quite packed but they have good and fast service so you'll have your food in no time at all. Highly recommended for anybody and everybody.

3. Y & L
Open: 8 a.m- 2 p.m(Weekday) & 8 a.m-1 p.m(Weekend)
Address: Jalan Haji Abdul Aziz 25000 Kuantan, Pahang

Y&L is a personal favourite of mine. They serve the best pan mee soup in town but they can be a bit rude. Back when I was in primary school, my parents dropped me off there to order while they went to the bank. When I tried ordering, all of them completely ignored me until my parents came! Despite that, I still go there cause there's no where else that you can find such a tasty soup. They even put in homemade meatballs which are amazing. Pan mee fans prepare to have your minds blown...
VERY VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

4. Kuantan Wet Market

Open: about 7.00 a.m-11a.m
Address: Google maps link--> https://maps.google.com/maps?q=http://www.nahklick.com/venues/4f88e7cee4b005979dcac5ee/?feed=kml/ OR http://www.nahklick.com/venues/4f88e7cee4b005979dcac5ee/ OR just type in "Wet Market near Kuantan, Pahang" in Google Maps
Geo-Coordinates: 3.812079, 103.323074

There is only one wet market in Kuantan so I think there shouldn't be hard to find. It's behind the only bus station in town. There are many shops at the wet market but here are the two I recommend:-
(i) Chong Kee
This is the shop shown in the picture above. It is the first shop from the right(nearest shop from the main road). They sell ko lo mee(dry noodles in sauce) which is a favourite among the locals. Their sauce is more watery than most which in my opinion makes it easier to eat. It's not amazing but it's definitely above average.

(ii) Lai Fook Hau
This shop in right in the middle row of Chinese stalls. They sell meehoon soup, mee soup and ko lo mee. The soup and Lembing Tau Foo in this shop are the real stars. Their soup is ridiculously tasty and their Lembing Tau Foo is absolutely delectable. The tau foo absorbs the soup so the soup gushes into your mouth when you bite it. Ahhh... Truly heaven on earth.

(iii) Fried Noodles
That's not the name, sorry! But it's easy to find, it's at the left end of all the Chinese shops(opposite end of Chong Kee). They sell fried meehoon, fried mee, watan ing yong(noodles in starch) and fried kuey teow. All of their noodles are really good! Good for any noodle fan.

5. Kwong Fatt
Open: 8 a.m-3 p.m daily
Address: B-1705, Jalan Beserah, Pahang, Kuantan, 25300

They have the best ngau lam mee(beef noodles), chi yok mee(pork mee) and kee kiok chou(chicken feet soup) in town. Their soups all have a very natural sweetness to it but I think I still prefer the chi yok mee in Imbi Road. I'm not a fan of chicken feet so I've never eaten it but i've been told that none of the other shops even hold a candle to their chicken feet. Their pork balls are also very juicy and tender. Prices are quite reasonable.
